Red Light Therapy Treatments

Red Light Therapy is able to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, sun damage, and skin problems including acne, eczema, psoriasis and inflammation.

What is Red Light Therapy?

One emerging type of anti-aging treatment has recently gained popularity, but has shown amazing results for years. This treatment, discovered by NASA, is called Red light therapy. Red light therapy is characterized by infrared light, which is a unique type of light that has a stronger wavelength than other types of light. This enables it to penetrate deeper into the skin and provide many therapeutic benefits including improvement in the skin’s appearance and structure as well as relief from pain. There is NO UV light associated with Red light therapy.

What are the benefits of Red Light Therapy?

Red light therapy helps to reduce pain & swelling, increases lymphatic activity, strengthens the immune system, accelerates cell regeneration, increases circulation, increases anti-viral properties, encourages collagen production, and can decrease injury healing time. Originally discovered by NASA, Red light therapy is now used by professionals to promote healing with powerful results.

Infrared light penetrates below the surface of skin to speed up healing time. Red light has the ability to stimulate the production of ATP, an important source of energy in body tissues. This allows ATP to promote rapid action by the body’s defenses. ATP helps to increase blood circulation, which reduces swelling and inflammation. Red light activated ATP stimulates white blood cells that work to repair damaged tissues, and increases collagen production that builds elasticity in the skin and can aid in wound healing. ATP also activates endorphins that provide soothing relief from chronic and acute pain.

Because Red light therapy triggers the body’s own defenses, it actually treats the sources of pain and doesn’t just mask the symptoms. Red light therapy provides relief from pain and discomfort without the side effects of pharmaceutical drugs or surgery.

Red light therapy is a safe, natural, non-invasive way to promote healing by allowing the body’s tissue to absorb red light at a cellular level, converting it to cellular energy. Many studies have shown that this energy accelerates activity in the mitochondria (the part of the cell that generates protein, collagen, and healing materials) as well as improving blood flow in the area being treated, speeding healing and minimizing pain.

Laser Hair Removal

Laser Hair Removal Pre and Post Procedure Care & Commonly Asked Questions:

Prior to your appointment:  Please completely shave the area to be treated the night before your appointment.  This will allow the energy from the laser to target the actual hair follicle.  Treating unshaved skin can result in burning and will result in an ineffective treatment.

Protect your treatment areas from direct exposure to sun or artificial sunlight for 3 weeks before and 3 weeks after treatment, using a broad spectrum sunscreen with total sunblock protection.  Tanning after treatment sessions may result in skin discolorations.

Do not tweeze, wax, bleach, or use chemical hair removers/depilatories for 3 weeks before treatment and discontinue completely during the entire laser hair removal process.

Do not use artificial self tanners or spray tanners for a minimum of 3 weeks prior to laser hair removal treatment.

On the day of your appointment: Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your appointment to fill out paperwork & sign your consent form.  There will be a $25 shave fee for all clients that arrive to their appointment without shaving the treatment area.

What to expect after your appointment/Post care instructions:  You may apply aloe vera or hydrocortisone cream to treatment areas to ease temporary discomfort. Ice packs may also be used if swelling occurs.

Do not soak in a warm bath or take a hot shower for 24 hours post treatment. Do not soak in a hot tub or use a steam room or sauna for at least 72 hours post treatment.

Do not suntan the area for 3 weeks post treatment.  Apply SPF of 27+ anytime you leave the house and are exposed to the sun for 3 weeks post treatment and in between laser appointments.

Makeup may be applied immediately after facial treatments unless blistering or crusts develop. Since the skin is sensitive during this period, take special care while removing makeup to avoid damaging the skin and risking infection.  Premier Wellness Center carries several excellent products to be used in conjunction with laser treatments.

If a blister develops, contact Premier Wellness Center 623-399-8222

How many treatments will I need?  Typically 4 to 6 treatments is adequate to produce permanent hair reduction. However, after a one on one consultation, we may determine that based on the density of your hair, hair color and skin color, you may require additional treatments.  You should continue treatments until remaining hairs are too fine for the laser to target or until you have reached your desired reduction.  It is not unusual to require a touch up treatments in one to two years after completing your hair removal treatments. Also, any fluctuation in hormones (menopause, pregnancy, etc..) can stimulate new hair growth and may require additional laser treatments.

Why does it take multiple treatments?  Hair grows in cycles or phases. Laser hair removal only targets hair that is in the active growth phase. Only about 25% of your hair is in an active phase of growth at any given time and only this hair is targeted and removed by the laser.  By spacing treatments according to the phases of hair growth, we are able to target all hair follicles during their active phase of growth thus eliminating the majority of hair.  After approximately 4 to 6 treatments, most treated areas should be free from hair.

Will my hair ever grow back?  Actively growing hairs that are treated should not grow back.  Once a hair follicle is damaged, it cannot grow hair. However, fluctuations in hormones can stimulate new hair follicles and new hair growth. This is why it may be necessary to have follow up treatments in the future.

What happens after each treatment?  Temporary pinkness in the skin lasts a short time and most people return to work/normal activities immediately after treatment.  The treated area will “shed” hairs over the next 3-4 weeks and you may experience a period of hairlessness in that area while you wait for your next treatment.

The pain-free, hair-free difference: Revolutionary Hair Removal

Pain-Free, Hair-Free is the next generation of laser hair removal. The treatment works by using pulses of laser energy to gradually heat the hair follicles in the subdermal layer of the skin until they can no longer produce new hair.  Using unique IN-Motion technology, Pain-Free, Hair-Free effectively and gently produces results while you stay comfortable.

Pre and Post Botox Instructions

Pre and Post Botox/Dysport Instructions:

To avoid bruising it is best not to take any pain relievers that are blood thinners such as aspirin like Tylenol, Advil, Motrin, or Vitamin E. 3 days prior to or 24 hours after injections. Avoid alcohol for a few days after treatment since it, too, is a blood thinner.

Do not use Botox if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, are allergic to any of its ingredients, or suffer from any neurological disorders. Please inform your clinician if you have any questions about this prior to the procedure.

Inform your clinician if you have a history of Perioral Herpes to receive advice on antiviral therapy prior to treatment.

Always inform your clinician of all medications you may be taking as well as your medical history.

You may have bruises in the areas treated with Botox/Dysport. This is normal. It can take up to two weeks for you to experience the full effect of the Botox treatment.  It takes time for the muscles to lose strength and the lines to fade following Botox/Dysport treatments. Movement of lines diminished is OK. The objective of the Botox/Dysport treatment is to improve the appearance of the lines, not necessarily paralyze the muscle. If we can achieve the improvement of the lines without complete paralysis in the area then you benefit from continued use of subtle facial expression in that area of your face.

It is best to try to exercise your treated muscles for 1-2 hours after treatment (e.g. practice frowning, raising your eyebrows, or squinting). This helps to work Botox/Dysport Cosmetic into your muscles. Although thought to help, it will NOT impact your treatment negatively if you forget to do this.

Do NOT rub or massage the treated areas for 4 hours after your treatment. Do NOT practice Yoga or any type of strenuous exercise for 4 hours after treatment. Also, avoid facials or saunas for 24 hours after your treatment. This will minimize the risk of raising your blood pressure and therefore minimize the risk of temporary bruising.

Do NOT lie down for 4 hours after treatment. This is to avoid the risk of pressure on the treated areas (from your pillow) and to avoid the risk of having the area rubbed accidentally.

Be assured that any tiny bumps or marks will go away within a few hours. If you need to apply make-up within 4 hours after your treatment, only use a GENTLE touch to avoid rubbing the treated area.

Results of your treatment may take up to 14 days to take full effect. Please wait until the 14 days has passed before assessing if you are pleased with the result.

Botox/Dysport Cosmetic is a temporary procedure and at first, you may find that your treatment results will last approximately 3 or 4 months. If you maintain your treatment appointments with the frequency recommended by your doctor, the duration of each treatment result may last longer than 4 months.

Initially our clinic sees patients between the 3-month (12 week) and 4 month (16 week) time period. We are able to create the best clinical results for you during this period. If you allow Botox/Dysport Cosmetic to wear off completely, it is difficult for the doctor to be able to see how your individual muscles reacted and therefore optimal results for your face can be more difficult to achieve.

Botox #1 cosmetic procedure 8 years running!

Aesthetic Medicine and Top Cosmetic Procedures:

What is the goal of Aesthetic Medicine?:  The primary goal of Aesthetic Medicine is to enhance a patients self-satisfaction by utilizing minimally invasive procedures aimed at maintaining a natural and healthy appearance.  Thus allowing consumers to “look as young as they feel”, “look better for their age” or simply allowing them to “feel more confident” about themselves.  Studies have found Aesthetic Medicine could actually have some real health benefits because  individuals that feel good about the way they look tend to lead more productive and happier lives and can actually live longer.

Who is having it done?:  Did you know that more than half of consumers are considering a cosmetic skin procedure in order to improve their appearance?  According to survey data from the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, 52% of respondents are considering esthetic treatments and many of them are already doing it.  The American Society of Plastic Surgeons reports more than 13.4 million minimally invasive procedures were performed in the USA in 2013.

What were the top 5 minimally invasive procedures performed last year?:  #1 Botulinum Toxin (Botox -#1 Procedure 8 years running), #2 Soft Tissue Fillers (such a Juvederm & Restylane), #3 Chemical Peels, #4 Laser Hair Removal, and #5 Microdermabrasion.

With Botulinum Toxin (Botox) being  #1, tell us what it is & how it works?: It is a very simple, few minute, procedure that can soften or eliminate facial lines and wrinkles.  Botox is a neuromodulator that prevents or works to smooth out wrinkle formation by relaxing the muscles responsible for forming these lines.  It typically takes 4-7 days from injection to start to work and 14 days to take full effect, lasting about 3-6 months. Botox is a quick, easy and affordable procedure that can provide dramatic results.

Some other considerations:  Minimally invasive cosmetic procedures tend to be affordable, have minimal side effects and when administered properly will offer dramatic and extremely effective results.  When undergoing any cosmetic procedure, remember, it is very important to use a highly trained, specialized, and extremely competent injector.
