Dare to be Bare, Get Rid of the Unwanted Hair with Laser Hair Removal

There are lots of ways to achieve a hair free body and hair removal can be a very time consuming task for many people.

While traditional methods such as shaving, waxing and tweezing may be effective, they do not provide long-term solutions for hair removal and need to be repeated often and sometimes even several times per day.

Of these traditional methods, waxing has the highest risk of complications including causing in-grown hairs that can be painful, unsightly and even become infected. (Laser hair removal can treat and prevent in-grown hairs.)

The most effective and longest lasting treatment available is laser hair removal. Because of effectiveness the treatment has become one of the world’s most popular nonsurgical aesthetic procedures performed (ranking after Botox and Dermal Fillers).

Laser hair removal can be performed virtually anywhere on the body where there is unwanted hair growth and can result in permanent hair reduction. Keep in mind that permanent hair reduction does not mean a 100% reduction of hair for life, but rather a 50-95% permanent reduction. New hairs can pop up over time but in most cases the new hair growth is thinner, finer, lighter and easier to manage with touch up treatments recommended to maintain ideal results.

Laser hair removal works by emitting a concentrated laser beam of light and heat aimed at the targeted hair and hair follicle. This energy is absorbed into the hair follicle thus damaging the follicle enough to retard future growth.

In order for laser hair removal to be effective it has to be performed in a series of treatments. This is due to the hair growth cycles. There are three stages of hair growth; Anagen, Catagen, and Telogen and basically at any given time a percentage of hair is in each one of these phases. Which means some hairs are actively growing and some hairs are either falling out (shedding) or in the process of falling out. The laser can only effectively target hairs in the active (Anagen) growth phase. Most hair growth cycles range between 4-8 weeks depending on the area of the body.

This is why a series of treatments spaced out between 4-8 weeks is needed in order for laser hair removal to be most effective. A person can expect an average of a 20-30% reduction in hair after each session.

Most hair removal lasers on the market work best on a person with light skin and dark hair but, with the advancement of new technologies it is now possible to treat a much wider range of skin types and hair colors. (With the exception of grey hair. At this time, there are no lasers that can effectively treat grey hair. So in order to prevent this complication, “get it before it turns grey”.)

It is important to keep in mind that the number of sessions needed depends on the area of the body being treated, skin color, thickness or coarseness of the hair, sex, underlying health conditions, ethnicity and the type of laser being used.

Even with laser hair removal treatments, results and patient comfort levels can vary greatly depending on the type and age of the laser being used. Just like with electronics, technology is continually evolving and improving. So don’t expect the same results or comfort level with an outdated or older laser.

When shopping around for laser hair removal the type of laser used should be one of the most important considerations. The type of laser is a key factor influencing treatment efficacy and complication rates.

One good choice would be to look for a clinic that offers Pain Free, Hair Free technology with the Soprano laser by Alma. This laser is very effective and is currently the only laser offering virtually pain free treatments.

The best part of all is that laser hair removal is no longer an expensive option. As technology advancements have been made, treatment prices have come down. Pricing is generally structured around treatment areas, with the smaller the area treated, the lower the cost (for example upper lip, chin, under arms), while larger areas such as backs, full legs and chests will cost more. Because laser hair removal takes approximately 6-8 treatments to be effective, some clinics will offer discounts or package pricing when purchasing a series of treatments.

When preparing for a laser hair removal treatment patients need to eliminate waxing or plucking of hair for 4-6 weeks prior to treatment. The reason for this is because the laser targets the root of the hair and the root needs to be attached (not pulled out) for the procedure to be effective. It is OK to continue to shave the areas to be treated before and after treatment sessions. As a matter of fact, patients are instructed to come to their treatment sessions with a clean shave in the areas to be treated. This will allow the energy to penetrate deep down to the hair follicle and will make treatments most effective and more comfortable.

It is also important to avoid tanning before or after treatment sessions as sun exposure can make treatments less effective and can increase the risk of complications.

Taking photosensitive medications including some antibiotics and Accutane is also contraindicated during treatment. The amount of time a patient needs to be off of a photosensitive drug prior to treatment varies depending on the medication and only a qualified practitioner knows the safest guidelines.

Although laser hair removal is quite safe and effective, be sure to research the clinic and the laser they use prior to treatment. Because contraindications do exist and complications are possible if the practitioner providing the care is not educated properly, it is always a good idea to be sure to go to a reputable medical clinic specializing in these types of treatments.

Look for a clinic that offers the latest and best technology with a laser that is targeted specifically for laser hair removal. Ask to schedule a free consultation that will allow for enough time to develop a treatment plan, answer questions and will give you the ability to “test out or feel” the laser before committing to treatment.

Thanks to modern technology and laser hair removal, clients can now look forward to a safe, long-term solution allowing them to toss those nasty razors, stop that painful waxing and enjoy smooth, hair-free skin.

Perk Cleanse with Benefits

Something New and “Perky” in the world of skin care.

perk-technology

Something brand new and “Perk-a-licious” just hit the aesthetic market. It is called Perk and it is the newest device from Edge Systems, the manufacturer of the multiple award winning HydraFacial MD system. Perk was launched in November 2015 and just had its world debut at the International Spa Association Conference (iSPA) where it was voted one of the top six new products to hit the market.

Perk is the first hybrid skin care system that combines cutting-edge technology with proven effective ingredients to exfoliate, nourish and revive skin in as little as 10 minutes with no downtime and immediate visible results. It is the first treatment of its kind that merges an in-office treatment with take-home products to enhance skin benefits. Clients get immediate results with long lasting benefits that fit perfectly into daily life.

Whether you’re in the mood to boost lips, replenish the eye area, or give your face that instant glow, Perk gives you the freedom to mix n’ match service options.

Perk can be utilized in a multitude of ways including as an enhancement to a traditional facial, an add on to a HydraFacial MD treatment, or as a stand-alone express service, enabling clients to give their skin a boost wherever and whenever it is needed most.

The Perk face treatment can also be used as a prepping station to other clinical treatments such as dermaplaning, microneedling, Dermapen, microdermabrasion or laser to enhance the clinical benefits of those services.

Another “Perk” is that the eye and lip treatments are the perfect add-ons to the HydraFacial MD treatment because it focuses on the only two things that HydraFacial does not. The HydraFacial does everything, except for safety reasons around the eyes and the lips and so having the ability to add on those two areas is now an added “Perk”.

Perk uses a unique hybrid system with patented roller-flex technology to gently remove surface layer dead skin cells and impurities while delivering vital antioxidants. Pores are gently flexed as the roller ball embeds nutrients, ensuring absorption and revealing a fresh new you. Plus the compact serum treatment vials go home with the client so they can continue to utilize the roller-flex technology to keep skin nourished and radiant long after the in-office treatment.

Perk is a well-rounded treatment that allows the client to achieve plump, perfectly primed lips, line-free eyes, and bright, luminous skin, all in a single treatment with the added benefit of a take home product, giving clients the best of both worlds.

Perk uses the finest antioxidants such as Horse Chestnut Seed Extract, Arnica Flower Extract and Ginseng Root Extract.

Perk has bridged the gap between efficiency and affordability to bring clients simple yet effective skincare. Perk is not only effective but it is also budget friendly and affordable. Average market price for treatments are: lips $29, eyes $39 and face $49.

The Perks:

ThermiVa Non-Surgical Vaginal Rejuvenation

Reclaim, Restore, Revive with ThermiVA Non-Surgical Vaginal Rejuvenation

Breakthrough treatment enhances women’s health and wellbeing.

There is a big buzz going around the nation about the latest procedure in the aesthetic world, “Vaginal Rejuvenation”. It is no secret that childbirth, loss of estrogen, surgery, cancer treatments and the aging process can take a huge toll on our “lady parts”. Luckily, there is now a new technology available that can provide an easy and painless solution to a large number of “issues” women face as their bodies change.

One treatment choice for feminine revitalization is called ThermiVa. ThermiVa is a FDA-approved comfortable, non-invasive treatment that does not require anesthesia, needles or the use of hormones or medications to restore vaginal health, eliminate dryness, reverse laxity, decrease discomfort, treat urinary incontinence and provide bladder support.

ThermiVa utilizes radiofrequency energy to increase blood supply to nerves and tissues by using gentle temperature-controlled heat. This process stimulates new collagen growth to rejuvenate both the inner and outer vaginal tissues restoring normal tissue tone and function.

Applying heat to tissue has become the accepted standard for promoting collagen remodeling, which helps strengthen the structural support and improves the integrity of the tissues thus encouraging new, tighter collagen production and improved coordination of muscle activity and strength.

ThemiVa is non-invasive meaning there are no shots, no cutting, no sutures and best of all NO downtime. During the procedure a small slender probe is used to provide temperature-controlled energy directly to the internal and external vaginal structures. The procedure is quick, painless and only takes about 30 minutes to complete. Some people refer to these types of treatments as “lunch break procedures”. Meaning they are fast and that you can return to normal activities immediately post treatment. Want to work out the same day? No problem. How about resuming intimacy? No problem. It is totally fine and actually encouraged to engage in such activity the same day as the treatment.

The treatment consists of a series of three 30 minute sessions once per month for 3 months. While many notice results immediately after just one treatment, three sessions is the recommended number of treatments for ideal results. After the initial series of 3 treatments, most women will need an average of one treatment per year to maintain ideal results.

Many patients seek vaginal rejuvenation in order to address cosmetic concerns such as vulvar and labial laxity. ThermiVa will tighten the labial tissues and reduce sag and improve “Camel Toes”. After treatment patients are more comfortable in tight clothing and have less self awareness in leotards and bikinis thus resulting in a boost to their self-esteem and confidence.

Even more patients are focused on clinical or medical concerns and the benefits that ThermiVa can bring to them.

Some of these benefits include:

Cessation of mild to moderate urinary incontinence: Urinary leaking and incontinence is a daily struggle for so many women. Even young women may report unexpected urine loss after gaining weight or giving birth. Women are suffering from embarrassment by experiencing urine loss brought on by laughing, coughing, sneezing, jumping, skipping or running. This embarrassment can discourage women from fully engaging in life and participating in activities that may perpetuate leakage.

This is something that women no longer have to endure. There is now an easy solution to this frustrating problem. Patients experience reduced accidents and leakage and even urge symptoms after treatment with ThermiVa. (Note: Although treatments are highly successful, not all types or severities of incontinence can be treated and the degree of improvement can vary from person to person.)

Restoration of lubrication: Menopause, lack of estrogen, cancer treatments, and the aging process are just some of the contributing factors of vaginal dryness. Vaginal dryness can lead to many unwanted things such as irritation, bleeding, tearing, and painful intercourse. Although vaginal creams and lubricants can help, they tend to be messy, and they don’t offer a long term solution. Now thanks to ThermiVa woman have another, better alternative.

CKiYG-LVAAAURG0 Patients can expect increased sensitivity, more coordinated and stronger muscular contractions, and the ability to climax in a shorter time period.

Prior to ThermiVa, vaginal reconstruction and rejuvenation were only available through major surgeries with significant recovery periods and downtime. ThermiVa has changed that.

Women who have received the treatment have called it “life-changing”. So if you are tired of midnight bathroom breaks, sweating it every time you laugh or cough, or are just looking to improve the tone and appearance of your lady parts, ThermiVa might be just the answer you are looking for.

IV Cocktails. Intravenous Vitamin Therapy can help to achieve a youthful glow.

Can Intravenous Vitamin Therapy make me look & feel younger?

By now you have probably heard the buzz about Intravenous Vitamin Therapy. A treatment that has been gaining popularity among the mainstream population along with celebrities such as Madonna, Simon Cowell, Cindy Crawford and Rihanna to name a few.

Treatments or “cocktails” are used to treat everything from fighting colds/flu, combating hangovers, improving athletic endurance, marathon recovery, enhancing cancer treatment and now these IV cocktails are being combined with medical facial aesthetics for the utmost in anti-aging and overall skin health.

One particular treatment that has been gaining recent media attention is a combination therapy that offers to address both external and internal skin health simultaneously by combining a Vitamin IV drip with a customized medical facial treatment. During this procedure the patient receives a customized vitamin IV drip while enjoying a relaxing yet therapeutic anti-aging facial. Total treatment time is approximately one hour. (Sometimes referred to as the Vita-Infusion Facial).

So exactly what is Intravenous Vitamin Therapy? A procedure in which a small intravenous catheter is temporarily placed into a vein and a special combination of vitamins are administered or “dripped” into the bloodstream flooding cells with nutrients in order to optimize cellular health. This type of IV therapy allows vitamins to be infused directly into the bloodstream rather than being absorbed through the stomach and digestive system.

Vitamin IV infusions can help increase energy, boost your immune system, aid in recovery and provide anti-aging benefits. Vitamins are necessary for cellular health and are important for the optimal performance of our bodies and minds. While we all ingest vitamins and minerals through the food we eat or the supplements we take, ingesting vitamins orally requires absorption through the digestive tract. How well your body can absorb and utilize these vitamins is not predictable.

There are actually a number of digestive disorders that interfere with or prevent absorption from happening including Crohn’s disease, irritable bowl syndrome, lactose intolerance, colitis, ulcers and chronic diarrhea. Even under ideal circumstances, the human body can only absorb a certain percentage of vitamins orally through the normal digestive process. As an alternative to oral supplementation, IV therapy safely delivers much higher levels of vitamins directly into the bloodstream completely bypassing the digestive process. This allows active transportation of nutrients into cells rapidly and effectively stimulating optimal health.

Although Vitamin IV therapies are becoming more and more popular, these treatments are not new and have been around and utilized for quite awhile. In the 1960s Dr. John Myers, MD became the pioneer of Vitamin IV Therapy by proposing that individuals were only absorbing a fraction of the vitamins and minerals they were ingesting orally and by increasing the absorption of key nutrients through IV administration overall health and wellness could be optimized. Based on this theory, Dr. Myers began administering IV injections of nutrients to successfully treat a wide range of clinical conditions including acute asthma, migraines, fatigue, fibromyalgia, muscle spasm, upper respiratory tract infections and other disorders.

Today the most common vitamin IV formulation has been named after him and is deemed “The Myers’ Cocktail”. This classic cocktail includes a mixture of Vitamin C, Calcium, Magnesium and B Vitamins.

So you ask, “How does all of this impact the condition of my skin?” We all know a healthy person radiates health externally giving them what has been called a “healthy glow”. Vitamin IV therapy delivers a rich intracellular nutrient blast that skin needs in order to be healthy. Vitamin IV therapy works at the cellular level by fighting free radicals that cause aging and by hydrating cells and tissues thus combatting the signs of aging and resulting in younger looking skin that glows from the inside out. Vitamin IV therapy is safe, effective, minimally invasive and tolerated by most people.

Can you stay Forever Young… Thoughts on Anti-Aging.

Forever Young.

From Rod Stewart’s lips to our ears, Forever Young might just be a real possibility. We’ve all heard the old adage that “you’re only as old as you feel”.  Well there is now research that actually supports that there is a lot of truth to this statement.  Researchers are finding that chronological age holds little value, that our mind and body is interconnected and that there is a real possibility that we can “think ourselves young”.  This idea could be a big contributing factor as to why different people age at very different rates.

We have all met people in their 60s that look amazing, are physically fit, active, have beautiful skin and possess a true vitality for life.  Then on the opposite end of the spectrum we also know people in their 30s that suffer from chronic health conditions, look a decade or more beyond their years with wrinkled, dull skin and an overall lack of luster for life.

Why is this? “We age not by years, but rather by events and our emotional reaction to them”.  Perception is key and how we react to situations is a big component to how we will age in general.  If we think “old” we become “old”.

Never retire from life, smile, laugh, stay involved, have a positive outlook, think young & “tweak” what you can along the way to keep your outer self looking as youthful as your inner self feels. (With a good attitude and a little “help”, your mirror will reflect what you feel on the inside.)

Let’s face it, frowning can make a person appear older.  I have personally treated many patients with Botox in their “frown lines” simply because they don’t want to appear distressed. These patients are bothered by people constantly asking them if they are upset or mad, even though they are actually feeling happy.  Most of the time these etched-in lines are a result of years of squinting or frowning thus creating a scowl that is visible even at rest.

Although there is no one stop “magic solution” to delaying the aging process, thanks to modern technology and advancements, we now have a multitude of ways to slow down or even reverse the aging process internally and externally.

Taking several approaches to maintaining youth is key. Remember, to stay youthful you need to take time to take care of yourself.  Just like going to the dentist or having your hair professionally styled, consider receiving regular “tweaks” with Botox, fillers and professional skin care treatments as part of your ongoing maintenance program.

Many people are now approaching these procedures as preventative measures rather than waiting until everything “falls apart” to do something about it.

Think about it this way, repetitive facial movements is what causes lines and wrinkles to occur, so if a person starts early enough (in their mid 20s) with small treatments of Botox a few times a year, one can actually prevent these lines/wrinkles from becoming etched into their face. Also, over time with regular Botox treatments, etched in lines and wrinkles can actually be reversed resulting in skin that is smoother and more youthful looking even after the Botox treatment wears off.

In addition to “thinking young” and cosmetic tweaks a few other key factors to maintaining youth would include, staying hydrated, not smoking, getting plenty of rest, managing stress, keeping active, engaging in fun activities, & applying sunscreen daily.

With that, I leave you with this thought…..

“How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you were?” – Satchel Paige
